  •      What is the most important thing you gained from this experience? Why?
    • On how much it matters to show kindness and patience when working in a dental clinic. This matters most to the dentist when they are working with their staff since the patient is main priority in the dental clinic. The dental staff must set aside any personal feelings toward the patient if they behave rudely because in the end, you want them to come back to you since they might have had an emotional day is all. For the dental staff, all it takes is one mistake to make the patients notice the how well their performance is and make a quick judgement based on their visit to the clinic.

  •      How has what you’ve done helped you to answer your EQ?  Please explain.
  • It has shown me how much it takes to run a dental clinic as well as keep bringing in new patients on a daily basis. To know that it is not about the expenses of the procedures that make the clinic run smoothly but the actual experience for the patients making them want to come back because of how they were satisfied with the results of their procedures. The patients want to know that they were treated fairly and the dental staff is always at their side to teach them ways to prevent infections and diseases from spreading.

Blog 12: Mentorship 10 Hours Check

1.   Where are you doing your mentorship?
I went to both my dental clinics, my main clinic is in Pomona called Trance and Dental Spa. The other clinic is located in Claremont called Smile Design.

2.   Who is your contact?
For my contact I mostly go to Trance and Dental Spa and talk to Diana who is one of mentors there at the clinic. The phone number for the clinic is (909)865-8595.

3.   How many total hours have you done (total hours should be reflected in your mentorship log located on the right hand side of your blog like your WB)?
So far I have done 31hours in total from both my dental clinics for my mentorship hours.

4.   Summarize the 10 hours of service you did.
I have learned in a hands on experience of what's it is like being a nurse assistant by helping out in cleaning the clinic, sanitzing the dental equipment, and cleaning up after the patient has been finished with his treatment.

Extra Blog: August

Mentorship:

During my first week of school I had a show and tell for my senior project. What the show and tell was to bring an object or idea that represents your senior topic. When I went to go see my mentor and I told them I wanted to take pictures of the workplace. As I was taking the photos, my mentor gave me her business card to present it in class. It was a good thing since the computer was down but I wanted to explain more on my mentor's clinic. In her clinic she goes with her atmosphere sort of like a spa. She has these wallpapers of nature landscapes for the patients to make them feel relaxed and on the side of the wall there is a radio playing soothing music. What I also didn't know about the workplace is that whenever patients are too stressed out or they are really nervous about going to the dentist is that the chairs have built in massager. This really amazed me on how much they put a lot of thought into the workspace atmosphere. Even my mentor has a room to pray in for whoever is really religious and want to pray before going to do the procedures. Even my mentor prays or just meditate during the day to relax herself. The way how my mentor and her main nurse assistant keep the place in order is by putting the patients with the right dentist. Each dentist has their own personality when it comes to working with patients. One dentist works well with children and another works well with adults and teens.

4.     What is the most important thing you gained from this experience? Why?
What I have learned is that communication is the most important key into having a successful business and also a better connection with the patients. From seeing how the dentists and assistants got along with one another and they work so smoothly while making the patients feel at ease and talking to them as a friend. This makes the patients feel more comfortable and makes them want to get more advice from the dentists and assistants about anything they should do for their dental health.

5.     What is your senior project topic going to be?  How did what you did help you choose a topic?  Please explain.

My senior project is going to be on dental care. I wanted to understand more on how the dentists and assistants work and how can a dental business go smoothly. The dentists gain your trust by first getting to know you and what you have been doing that affects your overall health. That shows they care about you and will not treat you like another case. The dentists where I volunteer at will put the patients first than themselves. I like to be a part of that since I always put my family and friends first. That makes me feel like I'm a part of their group whenever I go and work with them.
